Orthopedic Physical Therapy
Some common issues addressed by orthopedic PT include:
Orthopedic Injuries: This may include fractures, dislocations, sprains, and strains.
Orthopedic Surgeries: Patients who have undergone orthopedic surgeries like joint replacement, ligament reconstruction, or spinal surgery often require physical therapy to regain function and mobility.
Arthritis: Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other forms of arthritis can lead to joint pain and stiffness, and physical therapy can help manage these symptoms.
Back and Neck Pain: Conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal stenosis can result in chronic back and neck pain.
Tendonitis and Bursitis: These conditions involve inflammation of tendons or bursae and often benefit from physical therapy.
Overuse Injuries: Repetitive strain injuries (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome) and other overuse injuries can be managed and prevented through orthopedic PT.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation, often referred to as vestibular rehab or VRT, is a specialized form of physical therapy designed to treat dizziness and balance disorders related to the vestibular system, which is responsible for maintaining equilibrium and spatial orientation in the body. The vestibular system includes the inner ear and its connections to the brain.
VRT is typically prescribed for individuals who experience conditions such as:
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV): This is one of the most common causes of vertigo, where certain head movements trigger brief episodes of intense dizziness.
Vestibular Neuritis or Labyrinthitis: Inflammation or infection of the inner ear can lead to vertigo and balance problems.
Meniere’s Disease: A chronic inner ear disorder that causes recurring episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus.
Age-Related Balance Problems: Some people, especially as they age, experience unsteadiness due to changes in the vestibular system.
Manual Therapy
We use a multitude of manual therapy techniques including Graston, joint mobilization/manipulation, soft tissue/nerve mobilization, myofascial/trigger point release amongst others.
Sports injuries
We create an individualized treatment plan aimed at achieving the functional goals we set together. The approach may vary based on the specific injury, the sport or activity involved, and the individual’s unique needs and goals. We aim to not only treat the injury but also to optimize an athlete’s performance and overall physical well-being.
Post surgical rehabilitation
Recovery from a surgery can be daunting. After surgery, bones, muscles and soft tissues undergo a period of healing. This can limit the range of motion, flexibility and function of the joint, affecting the success of your surgery. Post-Surgical Physical Therapy is critical to restore full mobility and strengthen your joints & muscles. We work closely with your doctor to give you the best continuum of care to allow for a safe and speedy recovery.
Headaches
Many headaches are caused by a dysfunction in the neck. Performing a thorough scan to determine the exact source that is referring the headaches is paramount. Looking at every joint motion, muscle function, vascular blood flow, posture and motor control-–we target every patient’s treatment based on their specific needs.
TMJ
Common symptoms of TMJ pain include:
Jaw pain or tenderness, clicking or popping sounds, difficulty in opening or closing the mouth, headaches, ear pain, facial pain.Physical therapy can address these issues promptly.
Balance
If you have started to notice difficulty in maintaining your balance when walking on an uneven sidewalk, stepping on/off a curb, turning, negotiating stairs, Balance training can help prevent falls, enhance mobility and performance, and promote overall well-being. Some key aspects of balance training are balance exercises, improving core strength, and proprioception.
Pregnancy and post natal
Conditions we commonly see during/after pregnancy include: sciatica, mid/lower back pain, sacroiliac/pubic pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis. We work closely with your Obstetrician to ensure the best care for you and your baby.
